When my husband and I met about 10 years ago he was a competing power lifter and I was body building at the gym where I worked. Now we don't have the time to designate to this excercise as we once did. But I do require the kids take an hour relax time M-F while I lift in our living room. All free weights. We also do a morning yoga routine but I realize my husband wouldn't do yoga as part of an excercise routine so I won't suggest that to you.
ReplyDeleteMy husband although no longer lifts is a carpenter and doesn't shy away from the heavy lifting and physical jobs at the site. He just turned 40 this year and is in better shape than when we met. He's 6'3 240lbs and he was @270 when he was power lifting but he has a lot more definition now. So if we were going to offer any advice I'd say if you don't have a very physically demanding job lifting weights is an essential part of getting fit (but that's just our opinion.)
We are also careful with what foods we eat and give to our kids. No processed foods goes a long way towards staying fit. All diners include a good source of protien and a lot of veggies. We don't often so pasta unless the kids are asking for it. Breakfast for me is 4 egg whites for my DH its a bagle and eggs. For the kids I usually make pancakes from scratch or eggs and bagles. Lunch is usually left overs from the previous dinner. We do give the kids dessert every night which is usually a scoop or two of ice cream and more often than not DH will have some as well. Also we don't drink any soda here. Milk, OJ, Water and Beer. I should mention our necks are pretty red up in this part of the country. Beer is a staple.
Those are the two biggeset pieces of advice I can give to someone chosing to be healthy. Dave has said on his show once people get a hold of their finances they start to take control in other areas as well. It really is true! Good luck with the journey and we'll be back to cheer you on!
